What it is about…
Every family struggles to get along sometimes. Parents get beyond frustrated with their kids. Kids get beyond frustrated with their parents. Siblings fight with siblings. Teens are trying to establish their own identity that is different from what parents had in mind. Adult kids leave home and the family dynamic changes. Aging parents need more support. While these things are normal, they are distressing.
If there is no path to understanding the distress that everyone feels, then there is no path to repair.
Family counseling is designed to facilitate understanding of the emotional impact of the situation on each person involved, as well as in the relationships.
How does it work?
The first step is to slow down so we can acknowledge the impact that our family cycle is having on everyone. When we are steeped in our own pain, it is almost impossible to see the depth of the hurt our family members are experiencing. Even if we love each other, there is no space for empathy, especially if another family member’s actions are the primary source of that pain.
Our therapists, Christina Argo, and Camden Lambert are specifically trained to help identify the destructive patterns that fracture family bonds. They bring a deeper understanding to the unique impact this distress has on you and your loved ones.
Together, we explore the fears, shame, disappointment, and pain that often sit beneath the surface of family anger and tension. You know the feeling. We understand that this process is scary, especially if your family has never felt safe being vulnerable with one another. But, we are here for you every step of the way.
As we establish more emotional safety in the way your family interacts, there is more opportunity for forgiveness, defining boundaries, respect, and healing.
